Building the Foundations for Scalable AI Adoption: How Verisure Prepared Its Legal Function for the Future

How a combination of internal leadership, experimentation and embedded legal support helped create the conditions for successful AI adoption.

As many organisations were still discussing the potential implications of generative AI, Verisure had already begun embracing AI across multiple functions, always combined with human expertise. Within Verisure's Group Legal function, that broader enterprise momentum translated into a focused effort to explore how AI could support legal delivery, collaboration and business partnering.

Central to this journey has been a clear and consistent tone from the top. Verisure's Group CLO made AI adoption a personal priority, communicating directly and regularly with the full legal function, setting expectations and signalling unambiguously that this was not an optional evolution. That leadership signal proved as important as any tool or training initiative in creating the conditions for genuine adoption.

The objective was not to deploy technology for its own sake, but to build a culture where lawyers felt empowered to experiment, test new tools and learn from doing. The belief was simple: meaningful AI adoption happens through hands-on experience, not observation. It also depends on lawyers remaining responsible for the final output. Beyond efficiencies in time, AI can improve the quality of legal work by reducing the risk of missing something, provided that each lawyer owns the end product and can stand behind it.

That approach translated into concrete initiatives: an AI Legal Academy spanning three maturity levels, a dedicated Legal Function AI Task Force, AI Champions, hackathons, workshops and a network of internal super users actively sharing new use cases and success stories. Together, these initiatives helped move AI from experimentation to wider adoption across the team.

During this period, Synch provided embedded legal and privacy support to the function. Looking back, one lesson stands out: successful AI adoption begins long before deployment. Widespread adoption does not happen by itself. It requires strong leadership in driving AI, a culture that encourages testing and learning, continuous training, and ongoing sharing of new use cases and success stories.
