Small Steps, Big Impact - Our Deedster Challenge with SynchHeart

As part of our SynchHeart initiative, we recently embraced a Healthy Living challenge with Deedster - a company on a mission to drive the shift towards a sustainable world by inspiring people to take climate action through everyday deeds.

At Synch, we believe that doing good should be an integral part of doing business. Through SynchHeart, we regularly seek ways to make a positive impact beyond our legal work and this challenge was an inspiring new step on that journey.

Learning Through Action

The challenge kicked off with each of us calculating our personal carbon footprint and comparing it to national and sustainable averages. This gave us a clear, and for some, a surprising picture of where we stand.

With our starting point mapped out, we were put in teams and moved through a series of interactive “stations,” each focusing on a different aspect of sustainable living. We tackled short quizzes and completed small, practical deeds that encouraged us to reflect, act, and discuss topics we might usually overlook.

It wasn’t about being perfect, it was about becoming a little more aware, more intentional, and realising that even small steps can make a real difference.

What We Learned Along the Way

As the challenge unfolded, we shared weekly reflections and many of us found that simple actions, like choosing plant-based meals, biking instead of driving, or prioritising better sleep, contributed to meaningful change. The challenge helped us become more mindful, break old patterns, and form new, healthier ones.

There were plenty of "aha" moments too: realising the true weight of personal choices, uncovering surprising facts about environmental impacts, and seeing how smart, sustainable habits can benefit both the planet and ourselves.

As one colleague put it: "It's not about doing everything perfectly but about doing something and building routines that feel good and do good."

After three weeks, we had a winning team who had impressively performed more than 700 deeds, and together we all saved 396 kg Co2e through our actions.

The winning team received a grow kit and we look forward to follow their growing success!

Moving Forward

The Deedster Challenge sparked new conversations, new habits, and some new ways of thinking. It helped us reflect on our impact and just as importantly, reminded us of the power of collective action.

A big thank you to Deedster for making climate action accessible, engaging, and energising!
